If they ask you for money, it is not a job.
No legitimate employer in Uganda charges you to apply, to be shortlisted, or to be interviewed. This page helps you judge an advert before you pay anyone, and tells you exactly what to do if you already have.

Tick anything that matches your situation and you will get a straight answer. These operations are built to look legitimate, so not spotting one is not a failure of judgement.
How the operation actually runs
Fake job adverts in Uganda follow the same sequence again and again. Once you can see the shape, it stops working on you.
- Copy a believable advert Often a real vacancy from a real employer, reposted with the contact details swapped for theirs.
- Spread it where trust travels WhatsApp groups, Facebook pages and Telegram channels, forwarded by people who mean well.
- Reply fast and warmly You are shortlisted almost immediately. The speed is the hook: it feels like luck.
- Introduce a small fee Registration, medical form, uniform, training, transport for the interview. Small enough to feel reasonable.
- Ask for the originals Certificates or ID held as “security”, which turns into leverage for the next request.
- Escalate, then vanish A second fee, then a third. When you stop paying or start asking questions, the number goes dead.
Who to tell, depending on what happened
Reporting to the wrong body wastes weeks. These are the right ones.

You sent money by mobile money
Your mobile money provider
Report the receiving number to MTN or Airtel fraud support immediately. Transactions are traceable and the line can be flagged.
- MTN Uganda: 100
- Airtel Uganda: 100
Six things to do, in this order
Losing money to a fake advert is not carelessness. These operations are practised and they target people who need work. What follows is ordered by what protects your chance of recovery.
-
01
Stop paying immediately
Not one more instalment, whatever you are told about losing what you have already paid. That threat is part of the method.
-
02
Save every piece of evidence now
Mobile money messages, receipts, the advert, screenshots of chats, the phone numbers used, any names. Back it up somewhere off your phone.
-
03
Report to police and get a reference
Obtaining money by false pretences is a criminal offence. Without a case file there is no investigation and no recovery.
-
04
Report the receiving number
If you paid by mobile money, report the number to MTN or Airtel fraud support. Transactions leave a trail and the line can be flagged.
-
05
Find the others
One fake advert is sent to hundreds of people, so you are very unlikely to be the only one who paid. Group complaints get investigated; single ones often stall.
-
06
Do not pay anyone to recover it
A second person promising to get your money back for a fee is the same fraud wearing a different shirt.
Every role on NextRoleHub is free to apply for. We check each advert against the employer’s own channels before publishing and we reject anything that asks a candidate for money. If a listing here ever does, tell us and it comes down the same day.
